Haydock Park

A Griffiths, Club SecretaryI would like to pass on the thanks of the committee to all 34 members and guests who attended the competition at Haydock Park Golf Club on Monday 30th March, another great day out with the Society, I think enjoyed by all?

Our second visit there in three months and this time it it was a nice early spring green, with a splash of yellow daffodils, purple crocus and other early season flora starting to add colour to the course, instead of a Christmas card wintry white, as pretty as it looked in December playing golf on a surface as hard as the M6 is hardly conducive to the game of golf, I just couldn’t get enough check spin on my ball to hold it on the winter greens at the turkey trot!!! don’t know about the rest of you?

Congratulations to the top three golfers this month who were in reverse order; M.Taylor 29 points, G.Southern 30 points and Mr Captain M.Baxendale 31 points.

Nice to have Bob back playing with the Society after a more or less 2 year lay off and straight onto the podium, his handicap wont last long and one of our new members Crowie, who’s handicap will certainly be a lot lower by the end of the season, because he doesn’t just talk a good game, he can actually play one, that’s what lessons do for you, take note Handicap Committee!

Again the manner in which we were treated by all the staff at HPGC was very welcoming and nothing seemed to much trouble for them, Dave the Secretary approached me at the end of the day and asked me to pass on information to you all regarding memberships as they would be happy to take on any of our members interested in joining, all the information required can be found on their web-site which is linked from our own in the dates for 2009 section.

The food was of a very high standard yet again, as one member said to me “that’s probably the best food I’ve had with the Society” I don’t know! Brookfields Golf Club (last years big day out) I think personally will take some beating? Mark the chef and his staff were all thanked on behalf of the society and a letter of appreciation will be sent to HPGC this week.

One point I would like to emphasise is the use of mobile phones, I was informed during the evening that some of Haydocks members complained about some of our members using mobile phones on the course, the only thing I have to say on the subject is, our rules state quite clearly the society’s position on their use, if for any reason you need to use a phone then PLEASE be discreet and stand out of view, you wouldn’t stand in the middle of the tee or fairway when in need of the loo would you? so think of others if you really need to use one. the other important issue is causing slow play and holding people up, this is not an area for debate and MUST be addressed, the best option would be LEAVE IT IN YOUR BAG ON SILENT and check it now and again.

Secretary for the BRIDGE INN GOLF SOCIETY.
