About Wigan Golf Club

Wigan Golf Club lies in the heart of Lancashire, resting on the border between Wigan and Bolton. It is within easy reach of the bustling cities of Manchester and Liverpool and very easy to find due to its close proximity to the M6 and M61 motorways.

Wigan’s premier golf course is known as the “Hidden Gem” and is set in a mature tree-lined parkland, adjacent to a stunning reservoir and with magnificent views towards the Pennines. Wigan Golf Course was created in 1898, making it one of the oldest clubs in this area. The clubhouse, which was originally Arley Hall and has its own medieval moat, originally dates back to the 13th century.

The course presents a fair challenge to any standard of golfer. Over the years few have beaten it but all have enjoyed it. Our tree-lined fairways lead you to some of the best greens in Lancashire and if you enjoy peace and tranquillity, then Wigan is the course for you.

Visitors are welcome all year round, visiting parties and societies of all sizes. We believe that all our visitors will thoroughly enjoy the Wigan Golf Club experience.  Our stunning club house and grounds are the perfect backdrop to a great days golfing. Corporate and society golf is welcomed at Wigan Golf Club and is a great setting for a golf away day.

Wigan’s advantage over most local clubs is our policy is to maintain a lower membership, thus avoiding queues to get on to the course.

This delightful 18 hole parkland course threads its way through magnificent mature trees and provides a challenge that is mastered by few. The Club dates back to 1898 and the historic Club House, Arley Hall, is surrounded by a 12th Century moat.

As you leave Red Rock Lane and drive down Arley Lane, you know that you are arriving at a special place. Manicured fairways, beautiful greens, fantastic views, abundant wildlife, and the tranquillity. The moment you catch a glimpse of the Club House you will be aware that Wigan Golf Club is unique in the golfing world.

Wigan Golf Club is as premier golf should be, an outstanding location, great challenge and an unrivalled atmosphere on and off the course. The course and club are here to be enjoyed whenever you wish. Our policy is to restrict membership numbers to ensure that members have no need to book a tee time, they just turn up and play whenever there is no official competition. This also means that visitors will be welcomed and treated to the Wigan experience.

The Club is not just about playing golf though, it is an excellent social club. We are proud of our traditions and extend a very warm welcome to members and visitors alike.

We have a small putting green and nets for a warm-up. Drinks, golf balls, tees and yardage books are available in the clubhouse. Buggies are available for booking.

The 19th completes your day. The prestigious clubhouse and beautiful lawn surrounded by our medieval moat are excellent settings in which to relax. The Steward and Stewardess offer a warm and friendly service, providing delicious traditional food, which can be enjoyed with a taste of some local beers or a sample from our wide offering of wines.
